Why Is My Viking Dishwasher Not Draining?

Short answer

Standing water at the end of a cycle points at the drain path long before it points at a failed pump. Viking Repair HQ Los Angeles checks the sump, the hose routing and the waste connection first, and you can reach the desk on (213) 320-7007.

The three things it nearly always is

Debris in the sump comes first: labels, seeds, grease and grit pack around the coarse screen until nothing can get past. Second is the waste hose, which has to rise before it falls; once that rise has slumped behind the cabinet, dirty water siphons back into the tub. Third, where the machine drains through a waste disposer, is the moulded plug inside the disposer inlet — meant to be knocked out at installation, and if it was left in, nothing has ever drained.

What you can check yourself

Sponge the standing water out until the tub floor is dry, then look at the filter in the sump; on most machines it releases with a twist and lifts clear. Rinse it, clear the well underneath, and run a short cycle. If the water goes, that was the whole fault. Stop there — the pump, the wiring and the waste plumbing are not owner territory, and Viking Repair HQ Los Angeles takes those on.

When it is actually the pump

A failed drain pump is quieter than people expect: a short hum where a rush of water used to be, or silence at the point in the cycle when the tub should empty. Getting at it means drawing the machine out of its opening and taking the lower panel off, so it is tested before any part is ordered. That work, and getting a technician to the door, is what the flat $89 pays for.
