What the word authorized is doing
A manufacturer signs agreements with particular service companies, and those firms may then describe themselves as authorized. It is a commercial arrangement rather than a measure of skill, and it settles one thing that matters to you: who is allowed to bill the factory for warranty work. Outside a warranty it changes nothing about how a burner, a pump or a hinge gets diagnosed and put right.
Checking where your own warranty stands
Start with the purchase date and the model and serial numbers off the appliance itself, then put the question to the manufacturer using the customer-care details printed in the literature that came with the machine. They will tell you whether it is still covered and who may carry out covered work. Settling that before booking anybody saves paying twice for one diagnosis.
When an independent shop suits you better
A Viking that is a decade into its working life is past any original cover, and then the only question left is who you want in the kitchen. An independent outfit answers its own phone, quotes before it works, and fits genuine parts.
